Audio-Technica AT-HS1 Universal Headshell for Turntables
Lightweight universal headshell offering secure cartridge alignment and improved tracking for turntable upgrades.
Audio-Technica knows turntable hardware. The AT-HS1 universal headshell is a straightforward metal frame that connects your cartridge to the tonearm. It uses a standard 1/2-inch mount and a 4-pin connection, so it works with most cartridges on the market. The all-metal build gives it a reassuring heft. It doesn’t flex or introduce resonance the way cheaper plastic shells can.
Installation is simple. The headshell comes with color-coded lead wires and mounting screws. The rubber washer on the collar helps lock it tight to the tonearm, which matters for consistent tracking. It fits Audio-Technica’s own LP120, LP240, and LP1240 turntables, but it also works with any tonearm that accepts a detachable headshell. The integrated finger lift makes cueing records easy during playback.
One thing to note: this is a basic, functional part. It doesn’t include vibration damping or advanced alignment features found in pricier options. If you’re upgrading a budget turntable or replacing a broken headshell, the AT-HS1 does the job without fuss. For high-end setups, you might want something with more isolation. At this price, you get reliable metal construction and a secure fit.
