Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information HomeGear Insider collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Who we are

HomeGear Insider operates the website at https://homegearinsider.net/ (the “Site”). This is an editorial blog and buying-guide site about home and kitchen products. For questions about privacy, use our contact page.

What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you visit the Site, leave comments, subscribe to communications (if offered), or otherwise interact with us. It does not apply to third-party websites you reach through our links (retailers, social platforms, etc.)—those sites have their own policies.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the Site, we may collect:

  • Information you provide — such as your name, email address, website URL, or message content when you use a contact form, leave a comment, subscribe to a newsletter, or create an account (if registration is enabled).
  • Automatic technical data — such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, pages viewed, and general usage data through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Comment and anti-spam data — when you comment, we collect what you submit in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information (such as health, financial account, or government ID numbers) through normal use of the Site.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the Site, we collect the data shown in the comments form (typically name, email, and comment text), and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture may be visible to the public next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the Site (for example, in comments or a user account), avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors may be able to download and extract location data from images on the Site.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember preferences, measure traffic, and reduce spam.

Comment cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies on your device so you do not have to fill them in again on future comments. These cookies last for one year.

WordPress login cookies. If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to see whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days; screen option cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.

If you edit or publish content on the Site, an additional cookie is saved in your browser indicating the post ID of the article you edited. It includes no personal data and expires after one day.

Analytics and performance. We may use analytics tools to understand how readers use the Site (for example, which pages are popular). These tools may set their own cookies and collect usage data according to their policies.

Advertising and affiliates. The Site may include affiliate links and, in the future, advertising or measurement tags from partners. Those services may use cookies or similar technologies to measure clicks, conversions, or ad delivery. See our Terms of Use for affiliate disclosure.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect some Site features.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on the Site may include embedded content (videos, images, social posts, product widgets, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited those websites directly.

Those third parties may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with embedded content—including if you are logged in to that third-party service.

Newsletters and email

If we offer email subscriptions (newsletters or updates), we collect the email address and any preferences you submit. We use that information to send messages you signed up for and to manage the list. You can unsubscribe using the link in our emails or by contacting us.

How we use information

We use collected information to:

  • operate, maintain, and improve the Site;
  • publish and moderate comments and user-submitted content;
  • respond to contact requests and support inquiries;
  • send newsletters or updates you requested;
  • detect, prevent, and address spam, abuse, or security issues;
  • understand readership and improve our editorial content; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only as needed to run the Site, including with:

  • Service providers — hosting, email delivery, analytics, spam protection, security, and similar tools that process data on our behalf.
  • Spam detection — visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services.
  • Password reset — if you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email.
  • Legal requirements — when we believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, or the Site.

Affiliate and retailer links (including Amazon and other merchants) are governed by those companies’ privacy policies when you leave our Site.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained until we delete it. We may retain comments indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on the Site (if registration is enabled), we store the personal information provided in the user profile. Users can view, edit, or delete personal information in their account at any time (except the username). Site administrators can also view and edit that information.

We retain other data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • access personal data we hold about you;
  • request correction or deletion;
  • object to or restrict certain processing; and
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

If you have an account on the Site or have left comments, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including data you provided. You may also request erasure of personal data we hold about you, except data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

To make a request, use our contact page and describe what you need. We may need to verify your request before responding.

California residents

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and related laws, including rights to know, delete, and opt out of certain sharing.

For more information and to exercise applicable rights, see our Do Not Sell My Personal Information page or contact us through the contact page.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no website or transmission over the internet is completely secure. Use the Site at your own risk.

International visitors

The Site is operated from the United States. If you visit from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. or other locations where our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
