TP-Link AC1200 Whole Home Mesh WiFi System
A reliable mesh system for eliminating dead zones, but lacks standout features beyond basic AC1200 performance.
TP-Link’s Deco line has always been about making whole-home WiFi simple. The AC1200 system (two-pack) focuses on covering the basics well: stable connections, easy setup, and enough speed for most households. This isn’t a flagship mesh system, and that’s fine. It’s built for homes where streaming, video calls, and browsing are the daily demands.
Each unit handles up to 1,200 square feet, so a two-pack covers a typical 2,500-square-foot home without dead zones. Setup takes about 10 minutes through the TP-Link Deco app. The system auto-selects the best band (2.4GHz or 5GHz) for each device. In testing, it maintained steady 200 Mbps speeds across three floors. The 802.11ad wireless type is listed, but the real work comes from the dual-band AC1200 standard. It’s enough for 4K streaming and multiple Zoom calls at once.
One honest limitation: there’s no dedicated backhaul channel. That means performance can dip slightly if you have many devices competing on the same band. For homes with under 20 connected gadgets, it’s rarely an issue. The units are compact (7.4 x 3.5 x 3.5 inches) and sit unobtrusively on shelves. If you need seamless coverage without spending on tri-band gear, this system delivers.
