Pro-Ject T1 Evo Hi-Fi Turntable (No Preamp)
A minimalist hi-fi turntable delivering exceptional speed stability and low noise through its precision belt-drive system.
Pro-Ject has been making serious turntables for decades, and the T1 Evo is a clear step up from their entry-level models. The key difference here is the chassis. It’s CNC-machined from a single block of material with no plastic in the plinth. That matters because resonance is the enemy of clean sound, and a rigid, non-resonant base keeps the stylus tracking grooves accurately rather than picking up vibrations from the floor or the motor.
The tonearm is a one-piece aluminum design with high-quality bearings. It moves silently and smoothly, which means the Ortofon OM 10 cartridge—pre-aligned and fitted with an elliptical diamond stylus—can extract detail without fighting friction. The heavy glass platter and anti-resonant sub-platter add mass to stabilize rotation, and the electronic speed change lets you switch between 33 and 45 RPM without lifting the platter. It feels solid and deliberate in use, not flimsy.
One honest note: there is no built-in preamp. You will need a separate phono stage or an amplifier with a phono input. That adds cost and complexity if you are new to vinyl, but it also means you get a cleaner signal path and full control over your sound. The dust cover hinges are adjustable, which is a small but welcome detail for fitting into tight shelving. If you already have a phono preamp or are ready to buy one, the T1 Evo delivers genuinely high-fidelity playback at a price that undercuts most competitors with similar build quality.
